What is SAT

The inclination to study abroad has enormously increased in the past years. Thousands of students are going overseas to pursue their undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate studies. For such students, SAT is a language proficiency test to assess their understanding of the English language.

SAT® stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. The objective of SAT® is to evaluate a candidate’s verbal, written and mathematical proficiency. The results of this test help overseas universities in assessing the chances of candidates for admission in colleges overseas. As an aspirant for pursuing undergraduate studies abroad, you must know more about SAT®.

All the sections of SAT® possess different point scales and the candidates have to sensibly answer the questions. Section-wise details of time allocation, questions asked, and their marks are provided below for the convenience of the students:

SAT Exam Pattern

You can register for SAT online or via mail (only if there is a special consideration).

The cost of the test is US$52.50 – 101.50 depending on the country you are located in. For Indian students it costs US$96.50 and US$113.50 with the essay option.

Registering for the test online is simple. Here’s how:

  • Go to the College Board website and create a profile.
  • Fill the application form with all your personal and educational details.
  • Choose your test and the test centre.
  • Upload your front facing clear photograph.
  • Make the payment and print your admission ticket.

The SAT results are released 3 weeks after the test.

You can access your score by logging in to your College Board profile. Each section is scored on a scale of 200–800. Thus, your total score is in the range of 400–1600.

Two Modes Of Taking SAT Coaching Classes

To achieve your dream of studying or settling abroad, required test score is a must. However, a busy schedule could stop you from taking offline classes. Hence, Abroad up offers both online and offline classes for individual needs.

Traditional offline way of teaching seems to be the best for a large number of candidates. Offline classes give a great opportunity to interact face-to-face with the trainer and to develop language skills. Let’s have a look at the other advantages of offline classes:

Interaction with peers: for such tests, one must get rid of the hesitation and an offline class with other students would let you talk and build your confidence level to a new extent.

Elevate your performance: studying with other students gives you the competitive spirit to outperform others. It is a positive reason for one to push their limits and prepare accordingly.

Effective discussions: whether it is a one-on-one class or with other students, offline classes give one the opportunity to discuss either with their fellow batchmates or with the trainer.

Online classes have been popularised during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. There are several candidates who either lack connectivity to good coaching centres or are busy with their jobs or other formalities of their abroad journey. Candidates who fall into this category benefit from taking online classes. Let’s have a look at the many advantages that you get while taking our online classes.

  • Comfortable and cost-effective: studying in your comfort zone is better than anything else and the fact that you do not need to travel anywhere also saves you travel expenses. All you need is your smartphone or laptop and a good internet connection.
  • Time-saving: you definitely get online classes according to your preferred timing. At the same time, you also save travel time as you do not need to reach anywhere for classes.

Lesser distractions and individual attention from the trainer: you could choose to get individual online classes with little to no distraction and individual attention from the trainer.

Salient Features of SAT

  • SAT® is split into two sections. The first section assesses students’ reading, writing and math skill of regular subjects they study in school.
  • The second section is known as SAT® Subject Test which tests students’ subject matter expertise. The second section is mandatory for those students who wish to pursue specialization in subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, History or Literature.
  • SAT® is a paper-based standardized test. The syllabus of SAT® is also pre-defined that students study from.
  • In the Math section, calculator is not allowed.
